SCREENING COMMON PLACES / PARALLEL STORIES I WITH SOPRANO MARIANTZELA HATZISTAMATIOU & ACCORDIONIST NIKOLAS PAPATHANASIOU
Screening Common Places / Parallel Stories I with soprano Mariantzela Hatzistamatiou & accordionist Nikolas Papathanasiou
Thessaloniki Museum of Photography (ThMP)
Curation: KOSMAS PAVLIDIS – EMMANOUIL PAPADOPOULOS (STEREOSIS PHOTOGRAPHY)
The series of photographic screenings organized by the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography attempts, through a multi-level photographic narration, to detect common representations and varied differences throughout the European South and the Balkan Peninsula. A total of 37 photographers from ten countries are touring in the European Mediterranean and in the Balkans, in familiar or uninhabitable places that are socially and politically mutated, having perhaps the same orientation for the first time as that of the United Europe. With the special talent of the creators of the new generation and the power of the photographic image, the curators of the projection material Kosmas Pavlidis and Emmanouil Papadopoulos compose a mosaic of artistic narratives that palpable the wider social condition or more personal aspects, finally guiding us to Parallel Stories in Common Places.
The musical part of the event will act as a backdrop to create the right atmosphere to highlight the work of photographers. The soprano Mariantzela Hatzistamatiou and accordionist Nikolas Papathanassiou have chosen traditional melodies mainly from the 16th and 17th centuries and in some cases without a precise timing. Their performance will be released freely with improvisational elements depending on the stimulus of the projected photo. The two artists chose to present songs from another era, without acoustic reinforcement, respecting and inspiring from the historicity of the place so that the old embrace and accommodate the new.
