On the second edition of the SKG Bridges Festival, Granny Records will present to the public of Thessaloniki, two days of experimental electronic music. At the Museum of Photography of Thessaloniki concerts from artists and musical groups will be hosted, namely Acte Vide, Eventless Plot, Savvas Metaxas, Spyros Emmanouilidis, Giuseppe Ielasi and Lucrecia Dalt. At the same time throughout SKG Bridges Festival a graphic exhibition of Granny Records’ visual identity, will be hosted at Ypsilon under the supervision of the graphic designer Giorgos Vourlidas.
Granny Records is a record label, based in Thessaloniki Greece, which aims to highlight the sound works of experimental artists within the range of free improvisation, noise, electroacoustic composition and contemporary electronica.
Granny Records was founded in 2008 and operating since then by Spyros Emmanouilidis, Savvas Metaxas, Vasilis Liolios and Aris Gkiatas, while the lable’s visual identity is under the supervision of the graphic designer Giorgos Vourlidas.
Active since 2008, Granny Records has a continuous flow of music editions and events, exhibitions and workshops, providing a multicultural channel of expression and exchange of artistic ideas for the city of Thessaloniki.
Lucrecia Dalt (Born in Pereira, Colombia in 1980, and based in Berlin) has seen her profile as musician, sound artist and radio producer develop into high international regard. Her recorded albums – numbering seven in total, since her 2005 debut – encompass the dual worlds of intelligent avant-garde and contemporary electronic music, drawing in influences from her academic background as a civil engineer as well as musics and philosophies from across the world. She has collaborated with musical kindred spirit Julia Holter and worked on podcasts for the online radio of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona, on sound design installations and performative pieces for institutions such as Reina Sofia Museum and the Maisterravalbuena gallery of Madrid, in collaboration with visual artist Regina de Miguel.
Savvas Metaxas (Thessaloniki, 1981) is a musician and sound artist who works in the fields of experimental music, filed recordings, modular synthesis. His current focus in music lies in the idea of bringing musical life to everyday sounds that surround us, from environmental sounds to common noises, following the ideas of John Cage that ‘everything we do is music’ and also drawing inspiration from the innovative ‘musique concrete’ works and techniques of INA-GRM.
In 2008 he co-founded the ‘Granny Records’ label, focusing in publishing works by contemporary electronic musicians, moving in the range of free improvisation, noise, electroacoustic composition and contemporary electronica. Along with the operation of the label, he organized various events in the city of Thessaloniki.
He has released his music in various labels such as Granny, Orila, Panospria, More Mars, Cronica, Logarith, Galaverna, Coherent States and has performed in numerous concerts. His latest album is tilted “Hypnos”.
Spyros Emmanouilidis was born in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1981. In his youth he studied the piano and later on completed his academic studies as a forester. His interest in modern compositional methods of electronic music, free improvisation and natural sounds led him to experiment with a variety of different sound sources. His sound is based on field recordings, found sounds, piano, audio samples from cassettes and vinyl records are combined with analog sources and noise. His main interest is to create multi-layered soundscapes that vary in tension, rhythm and texture. He has composed music for performances of modern art and theater. He often collaborates with Savvas Metaxas as a duet. Recently released his first personal album titled “Fragments”. He co-runs Granny Records since 2008.
