The Bridge, a Silent Walk Piece, 2018

by David Bergé

Thursday 10, Friday 11 and Saturday 12, May 2018

“Traversing a room in a museum without a floor; water spilling on your arm from a Walk Piece that passes near a carwash; being into somebody’s apartment at 7AM and looking at a nineties unisex European looking hotel facade across the street; or the momentary pause in the morning sun after 70 minutes of walking when a red and blue truck finishes offloading a container and begins slowly backing down the street; or the activity of veiled women preparing a meal in a garage;”

A silent Walk Piece is a carefully composed walk guided by the artist in silence. The act of walking together in silence in urban space and being taken care of by a guide invokes unmediated communication and an encounter between human beings.

The Walk Piece (duration 70’) will cut through the fabric of Thessaloniki where scenes of everyday life unfold. The artist proposes to the people who take part in this walk an alternative/altered perception of the city. For the duration of the Walk Piece, audience members do not exchange verbally and refrain from taking pictures.

Walk Pieces of David Bergé have taken place in Aalst (NETWERK center for contemporary art), Brussels (Maison Particulière), Vienna (TQW), Tokyo (The Body arts laboratory), Vilnius (CAC), Tbilisi (GeoAIR) and Oostende (Dansand).
